Speaking at Shop.org Marketing Workshop

shoporghardrock.gifThe Shop.org Marketing Workshop starts tomorrow evening at the Hard Rock Cafe & Casino in Hollywood FL, and we'll be there. I'm participating on a panel called 'Improving the ROI of Paid Search" on Thursday, hosting three round-table discussions entitled “10 Quick Hits for Search Engine Success”, and we'll have a Commerce360 booth in the showcase area.

My panel presentation is a brief look at the Paid Search Scorecards we use to measure the impact and progress we're making against our goals for our client's PPC campaigns. The scorecards help us to keep in mind that PPC campaigns aren't simply about the right keywords, but rather a cascading set of variables that all need to be maximized individually and then considered and testing in combination.

Often you hear people come to the conclusion that 'this is a bad keyword' or 'that landing page doesn't work'. These statements may be true, but if the many other links in the chain weren't inspected, there's also a good chance that these conclusions are a serious mis-diagnosis. In my few minutes on-stage I'll talk about how we look at nine of the variables that impact paid search to ensure that we make the most of every campaign.

If you're in Hollywood and can pull yourself away from the tables and the pool, please stop by and say hello.

Speaking At SES NYC

HearMeSpeak_NY07_o.jpgOnce again our Lianna Evans has been selected to speak at Search Engine Strategies, this time in New York City this week. She's on both Thursday and Friday this week:

"Images & Search Engines" on Thursday, April 12 from 11:00am – 12:15pm
Regular search engines can't understand text trapped within images, and this session looks at strategies to combat this problem for the image-intensive site. It also examines how to generate traffic using your images via image-specific search engines.

"Search & Regulated Industries" on Friday, April 13 from 9:00am – 10:15am
Involved in pharma? Gambling? Alcohol sales? Run a medical site? Offering legal advice? Chances are, you have to deal with regulations from the government, from search engines or from your own company about what you can and cannot say on your site and in your ads. How can you stay within the rules yet not compromise your search marketing campaign? This session explores the issues.

ROI Radio - My First Podcast

ROI_Radio_o.jpgA few days ago I spoke with Greg Cangialosi, host of ROI Radio and Founder of email service provider Blue Sky Factory. Our conversation was recorded for Greg's show, and it is now available for your listening pleasure in streaming or download format.

We talked a bit about the history of Commerce360, and a lot about the issues marketers face in deciding between in-house and outside service providers, as well as current trends in paid search, web site analytics, and more.

Greg is a seasoned podcaster, responsible for the first Disney Podcasts among others. And he has just been contracted to write a Podcasting book due out later this year. I've paid attention to Podcasting since it's inception, but this is my first chance to participate.

Thanks to Greg and his associates for the invitation and their efforts to produce the show. ROI Radio has a whole backlist of interesting interviews, and you can even subscribe via iTunes to make sure you catch future shows.

Philadelphia Interactive Marketing Assoc. Meeting

Phillybowl.bmpTonight there was a meeting of the Philadelphia Interactive Marketing Association at the Lucky Strike Lanes. It was a purely social occasion, and five of us from Commerce360 attended to down a few drinks, dine on some pretty good finger food, meet and mingle with folks from lots of other area agencies and vendors, and see who could bowl, and who could not.

Turnout was very impressive with easily over 100 in attendance and about 50 taking part in the ad-hoc bowling tournament. We look forward to getting more involved in the organization, and to future events - the next one is planned for January and is expected to be focus on the rise and influence of social media.

Watch this space for details on the time, place, and exact date. Hope to see you there.

Commerce360 Event Report from in NYC

Last night at One Manhattan in NYC we hosted an event to celebrate our recent progress and success. Clients, friends and partners in attendance included Linkshare, Omniture, Signature Days, WhiteFence, RichFX, Register.com, SortPrice, Spree, Future Now Inc, and Darling Design Group among many others.

Kathleen Lindsay of Spree gets the 'driving distance' award, coming in from Philadelphia to be with us, and Howard Kaplan of FutureNow get's the 'reverse door-prize' award for giving up all the copies of 'Waiting for Your Cat to Bark' that he happened to be carrying, because our CEO Lucinda Holt grabbed them to give to some new clients.

A big thanks for putting this great event together is due to Stephanie Agresta, our VP of Affiliate Marketing, shown below with Norman Silverberg, of Register.com (left) and James Yu from LinkShare (right).

Pre-Commerce Becomes Commerce360

Startups are in a constant state of evolution, so often the milestones just go rolling by, almost unnoticed and certainly undeclared. But there are some changes that by their very nature are both notable and widely broadcast. We've completed two of those changes this week - a new name and a new office.

c360-logo.gif Our name is now Commerce360 Inc. The result of a long hard struggle for both inspiration and an available domain. The name was first suggested by our own Joanne Kondan, and suits us well as we attempt to cover 'all the angles' in providing online marketing services to our clients. Our cool new logo is from the team at Voveo.

The Pre-Commerce Group existed for almost exactly two years prior to this change, was in many was the 'beta version' of the company we are now, and will continue to grow into in the near and long term.

plymouth-office2.jpgOur new offices are located at 4060 Butler Pike, Suite 110 in Plymouth Meeting PA 19462. It's a great ground-floor suite in a 'Class-A' building, which finally offers room for everyone and plenty more for those coming soon. We were supposed to take posession of this space several months ago, which means there are several interesting answers to the question 'where were you before here?'. In any case, a big thanks to everyone on the team who worked hard and helped keep us going and growing despite very-much-less-than-optimal conditions.

The six months that led up to these changes have included quite a few other significant accomplishment too, including:

  • Hiring nine new full time employees
  • Closing our first round of financing
  • Substantially growing our client list and revenue base

For these and everything else I'm not mentioning, great thanks go out to our clients, friends, associates, contractors, employees, investors, and whomever else I'm forgetting.

Naturally, we have grand plans for the future, in terms of many more changes and accomplishments. Keep watching this space and we'll try and note them as they go rather than saving them up for another bi-annual update.
